- This is why I start the launcher on patch days before I go to work and it's all ready for me when I get home. All the game clients getting updated at once can slow things down from time to time. Today I forgot this morning so I went home at lunch and started it up.
- Events of Elder Scrolls Online take place: 2E 830. The Mages Guild goes through major changes during this time 3E 433: The events of Elder Scrolls IV. Patches and Updates. Starting ESO.
- For The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on the Xbox One, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'Game updating is very slow'. Are you trying to install the game at the same time as the update? I have found that by going offline and installing just the game then online for just the update things tend to go faster. I bought the game yesterday during the GMG sale. I went through the whole process of registering, installing the launcher, etc. and now I'm at the point of downloading the game.
The thing is it has already been 12 hours and it is at about 8%. The download speeds are all over the place, from 0 to 1.3 MB/s, on average.
I think this is extremely slow, considering that I have fully downloaded games with huge sizes like this one before in way less time than this.
Is this normal for this game or is it just the servers under heavy load because of too many people buying the game during the GMG sale?
Thanks!!
So I came back to find out that the problem was still happening. When I got home, the damn downloader was still at 16%!!! I noticed a small message on the bottom saying 'WebGet Request Failed'. If I hit 'pause' and the 'resume' the download restarts (at super slow speed) but a few minutes in, the same message comes back, stopping all downloading activity again. Closing the launcher and restarting it makes no difference.
I started doing some digging on the internet and apparently it is a common issue but nobody seems to have a real solution. There is even a page dedicated to it on the TESO support page (https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3040) but none of the suggestions there have made any difference whatsoever.
At the moment, the only thing that seems to kind of work is what some people have suggested, which is to manually pause it and resume every time the error shows up, which is exactly what I have been doing. 3 hours later I managed to go from 16 to 17%!!!!. Completely unacceptable.

Has anyone had better luck with this error? I already tried everything suggested. Running as admin, restarting the launcher, pause and resume, adding an exception to the antivirus (norton) and disabling it completely.
Thank you!
EDIT 2:
It finally got to 100%. The only option was to simply wait for it. I kept getting the 'WebGet' error once in a while but I think it restarted the download by itself every time. If I got to see it I paused it and resumed it. Eventually it finished. I even think it got a bit faster towards the end. I didn't really pay attention to when I started this little adventure but I estimate the whole thing took about 36 hours.

I want to start off by saying I only played an hour of this game before realizing it was not what I was hoping for. Not saying its a bad game, just not what I was looking for.
Problem is, the patch download took such a long time, that it exceeded the refund limit by a huge margin. I contacted support explaining that I did not actually play the game for more than an hour, but that it was infact an issue with steam registering the game being 'played' during the long install process.
Instead of getting a response from a support specialist, I got a copy and paste instant reply:
We are unable to refund this purchase to your Steam Wallet at this time. Yooka laylee pc download. Your playtime of an included product exceeds 2 hours (our refund policy maximum).

My ticket was immediately closed with no option to reopen and no option to further contact them on the matter.
How is this fair?
@Edit: After reading some advice from users, I am going to keep resubmitting my refund request until I get in touch with an actual human.
@Edit2: I have resubmitted my ticket 7 times now, only to receive the exact same message minutes within submitting the ticket, as if its not even going to a real person, but just instantly being denied by a bot.

@Edit3: My refund request has been granted thanks to some great people on Steams support team taking the time to look directly into my request!
